The wrestling program at Mother Teresa Middle School in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada began as an after-school program, but its popularity led to the establishment of a wrestling club at the school. Ron Gonzales, who serves as the club’s coach in addition to his other administrative duties at the school, knows firsthand the valuable lessons that wrestling can teach. With a background in national-level competition, he set out to share his passion for the sport when he joined Mother Teresa Middle School (MTMS) in 2011. “Wrestling teaches students so many skills like grit, confidence, work ethic, resilience, and building self-esteem. If they get those values out of it, they are a champion regardless of if they decide to go to competitions or if they win medals,” said Gonzales. Read more here.
