Culture, Identity & Healing at Mother Teresa Middle School - Belong, Believe, Become
Presenters:
Curtis Kleisinger, MTMS Executive Director Terri Cote, MTMS Principal
Jayde McFee, MTMS 7th Grade Teacher
Responding to the historical impact and generational trauma created by the Indian Residential Schools (IRS) in Canada, the discovery of mass, unmarked, graves at former Indian Residential School sites and the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report and it’s Calls to Action in 2015 - this presentation will focus on the best practices, strategies and programming that has been designed, developed and implemented at Mother Teresa Middle School (MTMS), to help all students and staff discover their personal and cultural identity, assert their voice and experience healing. Although the players may be different and the contexts diverse, we believe that the best practices and strategies shared, can be adapted, implemented and executed in the unique and varied contexts of other Nativity Miguel Coalition schools, to foster Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ).
