Guadalupe Regional Middle School Celebrates Its First Jack Cooke Scholar

Guadalupe Regional Middle School (GRMS) is excited to share that one of its remarkable 8th-grade students, Oscar Gamez, has been selected as one of the esteemed national Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars! This prestigious recognition is only bestowed upon a select few students across the country.

The Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program is renowned for identifying and supporting high-achieving students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds across the United States. This highly competitive program aims to nurture the talents of exceptionally gifted young individuals and provide them with the resources and opportunities to reach their fullest potential. The program covers 4 years of:

  • financial support for high school

  • financial support for extracurricular activities

  • financial support for summer programs

  • academic and college advising

  • networking opportunities

Oscar has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, transformation, and leadership skills. After a grueling application process that included 5 essays, recommendations, and an interview, among other things, his accomplishments have truly set him apart, and GRMS couldn't be prouder to have him represent the school and Brownsville on a national level.

This recognition not only reflects Oscar's dedication and perseverance but also highlights the incredible support of his family and the guidance he has received from GRMS’s dedicated faculty and staff, as well as the commitment of his school counselor, Cindy Rivera, and principal, Dr. Virginia Miller.

The GRMS school community continues to work to foster an environment that encourages academic growth, creativity, and the pursuit of excellence. As it celebrates this remarkable achievement, let us stand united in offering our heartfelt congratulations to Oscar and his family. GRMS and NativityMiguel Coalition look forward to witnessing what comes next for them.

Thank you to GRMS for continuing to inspire and empower your students to dream big and strive for greatness.
